Brief description:

In 2017, the Ministry of the Interior in Spain has deployed National Police and Civil Guard personnel to Catalonia to " support the Mossos d'Esquadra in maintaining order", as stated by the Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido. Four Rapid Intervention Modules have been deployed from Seville and Madrid, teams of around twenty members specialised in urgent actions.

The reason for the concentration of the police forces to Catalunya and especially to Barcellona was the Catalan independence referendum and the plans of the central government to repress it.

When the police officers were leaving the areas of their regular service, on many occasions they were greeted by the crowd with a warm farewell and encouragement, waved Spanish flags, and chants such as "Go get them, oé" and "Catalonia is Spain". Similar posts appeared also in social media.
