Brief description:
A fountain in the village of Nimfea (Yanıköy) in Komotini, Greece, built by a philanthropist belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace, was damaged by unidentified persons.
On 12 May 2020, as the newspaper Gündem reported, the fountain marble plate displaying the names of the benevolent Western Thrace Turk who funded the building of the fountain was removed and shattered. A graffiti slogan against the Turks was written with spray paint on the fountain. The unidentified persons wrote the slogan ‘Erdoğan Turks Nazi’ on the fountain wall.
The minority strongly condemned the terrible hate-motivated and racist attack, revealing enmity against Turks and targeting the Turkish community in Western Thrace.
